Environment
- macOS (Apple Silicon), Traycer Desktop, epic with local worktree on an external volume
- Files: local PDFs (invoices/statements) generated inside the workspace
Steps to reproduce
1. Agent creates/edits local binary files (e.g. generated PDFs) and reports their absolute paths in chat.
2. Ask for clickable links — plain absolute paths render as inert text; markdown links with
file:/// also don't navigate.
3. Open the Files-changed panel and click one of the PDF "Edit" entries.
4. Ask for the same paths inside a Traycer artifact.
Expected
- Clicking a file path/entry opens the file locally (Finder reveal / default app) or shows a preview.
- Absolute paths and file:// links in chat/artifacts are either clickable or clearly documented as unsupported.
Actual
- Chat: plain paths are inert text;
file:/// markdown links are not clickable.
- Files-changed panel: "Edit" opens the diff viewer, which cannot render binary files (PDFs) — no preview, no open-in-app.
- Artifacts: no support for linking to local workspace files (artifact links are artifact-relative only).
Impact
- For workflows that produce client-ready documents (invoices, statements, work orders) as local PDFs, the user cannot access outputs from the UI at all and must fall back to Terminal (
open <path>
) or Finder.
- Workaround found: agent-generated local INDEX.html with relative
links works in a browser — but this is a manual fix, and artifacts can't host it usefully either.
Suggestion
- Local file links (or a "Reveal in Finder / Open" action) for chat messages and the files-changed panel.
- PDF preview support (or open-externally button) for binary files in the diff/files panel.
- Optional: allow artifacts to link to workspace files.
